How to get a NIP number in Poland

Personally, I find it a bit annoying when you’re looking for certain information and a bunch of articles start with what it is, what it’s for, and so on. I think you too. For example, you want to find out how to get a NIP in Poland, and they start telling you what a NIP is and what it’s for. “Well, sh…”, you think, ‘I already know what it is…’.

I got my Polish tax number when I got a job as an IT consultant and was engaged in the development of the website of a labor agency near Wroclaw. I was working on an employment contract, although before that I had also worked at a factory on an employment contract. I didn’t know anything about the need to have a NIP, as they say. I had to have it. A girl from the HR department of our office came to me and brought me an application form for a NIP, where I had to fill in some basic information about myself, such as date of birth, name, surname, passport details, something else… I don’t remember exactly. But one thing is for sure – everything is logical, there is not much to fill in, and every adequate person will figure it out on their own. I filled it all out, gave it to the girl from the office, and she sent the letter to Poznan. Yes, to Poznan, because although I worked close to Wroclaw, I was in Greater Poland Voivodeship.

After some time, I think at least a month later, I received a letter from Tax Office in Poznan about the assignment of a Polish taxpayer identification number. Or rather, it was not me who received the letter, but our company, and my boss brought it to me, handing it to me and saying that I now had a NIP and it would stay with me once and for all, wherever in Poland I worked. “Well, that’s great,” I thought. In general, I somehow did not care about such documents at that time.

So, what can we conclude? If you want a Polish NIP, you need to get a decent official job in Poland where you will be issued both NIP and PESEL, or ask your employer to help you get these documents. If you can’t do both, then Google how to get a NIP in Poland, how to fill out the application, and where to submit it. I would write about this too, but I have no experience in this area, and the “feature” of this site is my articles and videos where I share my personal experience, i.e. I tell the truth about various nuances based on my own experience. I believe that only such a site can really benefit people and help build a high level of trust between me and the reader. I don’t see the point in replicating and reprinting materials and rewriting existing materials.
