What is the minimum salary required to apply for a residence permit in Poland?

If you want to obtain a temporary residence permit in Poland, one of the conditions is to have regular income. The minimum amount you need to receive to apply is 776 PLN (2022). The income must be received in Poland from an official source.

Of course, you can apply even if you receive less, but it will not make sense, because the case will end in a negative decision – a refusal to grant a residence permit.

Why do I need a salary to get a residence permit in Poland?

There are several main grounds for obtaining a residence permit in Poland. You should choose one of these grounds before submitting your documents.

The main grounds for applying for a temporary residence permit in Poland:

  • work
  • running a business
  • studying at a Polish university
  • family reunification

If you are applying for a residence permit on the basis of employment, like most foreigners in Poland, you must earn at least the minimum statutory salary for a given year. This is the basis (but not the only requirement) for obtaining a positive decision in your case.

What does a temporary residence permit on the basis of work entitle you to?

A temporary work-based residence permit entitles an employee to work for a specific employer under the conditions specified in the employment contract.

The employer’s data and working conditions are indicated in the employment contract when submitting it to the Voivodeship Office (Ująd Wojewódski). Any changes to these data prior to the issuance of the decision (decisio) on obtaining a residence permit must be made in writing.

Other necessary documents for applying for a temporary residence permit in Poland based on work

First, you will need a valid passport. Next, you will need to fill out an application form, which you can obtain at the Ująd Wojewódzki office in Poland corresponding to your place of residence or download from their website. You will also need to provide four photos of yourself.

Finally, you will need to pay a fee for the application process and for obtaining a plastic card. In addition, for a successful application, you will need additional documents from your employer – social security contributions that he pays for you (ZUS), Annex 1 (Załącznik nr.1) and possible others. When all these documents are ready, you can submit your application and wait for the decision.
